A Torrey Pines Photowalk w/ San Diego SmugMug

A couple of weeks ago I met up with my fellow photographer buddies, Greg & Michelle, at Torrey Pines State Park to do a San Diego SmugMug photowalk.  It was a great afternoon of taking pictures, sharing photography stories, tips, and techniques.

It was a fun afternoon of hanging out with friends.  Taking pictures with friends is one of the best things about photography.  Photography is one of those hobbies that you can share the experience with others.  One of the most fascinating things I find about photographing with friends is that even when we are only a foot apart from each other our photographs turn out totally different.  As a photographer our perspective of the world gives each of us a unique "style."  And having a unique style is important because the last thing you want someone to tell you is that you like someone else.
The unique style of our photographs don't happen over night mind you.  It takes many hours of photographing things that you love.  It's photowalks like that one that Greg, Michelle, and I went on that helps in this effort.  I read from Chase Jarvis, I believe, that you'll need at least 10 thousand hours of practice before you can even master the craft.  So that means you have to constantly and whole heartedly practice and take pictures.

In the next coming months I have a few more San Diego SmugMug photowalks planned.  I hope with these photowalks to help our members in their path to photography discovery.  Give them basics tips and tricks so that they can get their own unique style.  The next one planned is to be an evening shoot inspired by one of our speakers.
